Blogger Interview: Cindy Alfino

I’m obsessed with Cindy’s blog. She covers everything from motherhood, parenting tips and life with the 3 kids. If you are interested in what Cindy has to say then please keep reading.

Name and name of blog:

Cindy Alfino – 3 Kids, 2 Dogs and 1 Old House (

What made you decide to start blogging?

Back in 2010 we had just welcomed our second daughter into our lives – just 12 months after welcoming the first.  With all the spare time I obviously had, I thought blogging would be a good idea 😉  It really just started as a way for us to capture our memories and to be able to connect with other women in the same situation.

Describe your blog?

It’s our space to remember the up’s and down’s that parenting throws at us whether that is travelling together as a family, doing something new and fun or working through the more challenging side of day to day parenting, I try to cover it all.  I want to be able to look back and see what we have been through, but also I want other moms in the same position to know that they are not alone.

What is your inspiration in life, style, work, hobbies?

Usually my inspiration to write is that deep yearning to work through something that I am currently struggling with or very excited about.  It comes from very varied places of things that we enjoy together, a few of those things are: planning parties, travelling as a family or occasionally as a couple, my skin journey, home decor and mostly my children.

When you are not blogging, what do you do?

I’m actually an insurance broker so I spend every day in the office.  Luckily I am very blessed to be the co-owner of my company so I am able to leave half day and work from home when I need to.

What’s on your wish list for summer/Christmas/Special occasions/or just for the next few months?

I’m trying to cut down on the excess of my life – too many clothes, shoes, make up products etc.  But things that I don’t think you could ever have enough of is indoor house plants (that don’t die easily), character stud earrings (think little camera’s glasses, birds, whatevs) and good wine.

What do you splurge on?

My kids.  Does that count?

What are you reading right now?

I am currently in between books, but I have read such a great variety this year it’s hard to choose just one.

Who is your favourite local celebrity?

I don’t have a local celebrity that I think is awesome.  I think it’s because in my mind they aren’t really celebs.  To me, a real celeb is Beyonce and somehow people in SA that are still hustling every damn day to stay where they’re at are just too much like everyone else.  If that even makes sense.

What is your favourite make up brand?

Easy – my Lycogel concealer – I can’t go a day without it.

What is your top five must have products?

La Melle Serra for Atopic skin moisturiser, coffee, Diemersfontein Pinotage, Converse and a good phone.

Define your style?

That’s a hard one.  I have grey/lilac hair and love to dress comfortably.  Sometimes I dress up but you’ll hardly ever find me in heels (even though I’m so short I really should probably wear them).  My every day look is easily a great fitting pair of jeans, a white lose fitting top, a printed cardi and boots.  And on a warm day it’s definitely a really great dress.

What makes you happy?

Spending time with my family doing something fun – whether that’s being snuggled up on the couch and watching a movie or going out and exploring the country, as long as we’re together it’s cool.

How do you define success?

Being happy with what you have.
